Fishing Group

The Fishing Group is open to all members of Cockburn Power Boats and was recently relaunched in 2018 with a focus on encouraging participation in a wide range of fishing related activities both on and off the water. We welcome fishers of all types, experience levels and ages with the aim to provide a friendly, inclusive and fun community of people with a shared interest in fishing.

We hold social events at the clubgrounds on a Sunday afternoon every two months, with group members coming together for a fishing related activity or presentation, awarding of prizes, food and drinks. In the alternating months between the social events we hold meetings on a Monday evening to share group news, meet new members and plan upcoming events.

The Fishing Group organises a number of significant activities each year, including organised group fishing days, trips away to top fishing locations, fishing information nights and other fundraising events. Through our group affiliations members are able to participate in the WESTAG fish tagging program, AAA fishing championship events and OzFish habitat restoration initiatives.

To join the Fishing Group, simply email wozzjk@iinet.net.au or fishing@cpb.org.au with your contact details and we will get in touch.

Fishing Group activities include

  • Continuous fishing competition
  • Social events every two months
  • Regular group meetings
  • WESTAG fish tagging program
  • Participation in AAA fishing championships
  • Organised group fishing days
  • Fishing information nights
  • Organised trips away
  • OzFish habitat restoration initiatives

Some club trips and events have included escorted night navigation around Cockburn Sound, escorted runs offshore, fish filleting how-to’s, trips to Jurien Bay, Thevenard (Mackerel Islands) and Coral Bay, rig making nights and so on.

The Fishing Group runs a Fishing Competition throughout the year.

The Fishing Competition is setup to support catch and release fishing and to make sure that all members can take part when-ever and where-ever they go fishing. Members simply need to measure the length of their catch and take a photo, which is submitted online. Prizes are awarded every two months at the Fishing Group social events by random draw, so everyone has an equal chance of winning, no matter what size the catch. The focus is on participation by all of our members no matter what level of experience and to share our fishing adventures.
